Mohawk language mobile apps are being published by TalkMohawk.com, with the release of Talk Mohawk 2012 v1.0 for iOS. Tap a word or phrase to hear them spoken in Mohawk (Kanien’keha) dialects. Users can repeat what they hear to help them practice and gain confidence to speak in public with fluent speakers. The goal is to help users discuss the details of the language with their favorite fluent speakers. Users can ask TalkMohawk.com for specific translations to be added. Upgrades and new versions are scheduled to be released every 4 to 6 weeks for all popular mobile device platforms.

Monica Peters is the mobile software developer and she is Onkwehonwe (Mohawk, Kanien’kehake) from Akwesasne. She developed her first software program in the mid 1970s when she was a child first learning how to read. Her past work developing Endangered Language Machine Translators in the early 19990s using voice recognition and similar technologies was Internationally recognized with awards and a televised documentary from the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation. Monica also attends Full Sail University where she is earning her Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on Mobile Software Development for iOS and Android.
